本书以国际政治经济学的基本概念为基础，运用层次分析、结构-功能分析以及博弈分析相结合的方法，并以多个案例分析作为基本出发点，研究跨国经济贸易关系中日益重要但同时不同行为人之间利益冲突日益严重、复杂的课题：国际劳工标准。本书以20世纪90年代以来全球化进程的发展为背景，以主权国家和跨国公司为代表的企业为研究对象，从分析考察全球实施国际劳工标准的方式入手，系统研究了在全球地区性自由贸易协议谈判和部分发达国家与发展中国家的双边自由贸易谈判中附带劳工标准的谈判方式，以及对中国的启示。
