21世纪的东北亚已经成为世界的一个热点地区，同时更是与中国经济发展和战略安全高度相关的地区。这一地区既有经济技术合作的潜力和希望，也有错综复杂的矛盾与危机。目前该地区朝核危机的结局仍难以预料，中日间的僵持局面还不见缓和，美国在该地区的军事布置正在做重大调整，日本与俄、中、韩在领土方面的争端尚在继续。另一方面，中俄战略伙伴关系稳定发展，双边经贸合作不断深化；中日互为最重要的贸易伙伴，中国与韩国、朝鲜、蒙古的双边经贸合作发展势头良好，同时多边的交通运输合作、金融合作、科技合作、资源开发合作、环保合作及安全合作等正在积极展开，实现东北亚区域经济一体化的呼声越来越高，其现实可能性日益增大。无论从经济层面，还是从政治与安全层面，东北亚对于中国都具有特殊的重要性。
近年来对于东北亚问题的研究取得了长足进展，但从总体看仍存在三大问题：一是经贸合作研究与政治、安全研究相分隔；二是缺乏系统性与完整性，严重忽略了对朝鲜和蒙古的研究；三是提出的一些构想和思路缺乏可操作性。为弥补以上不足，本书以全方位的视角，对东北亚地区的政治、经贸、安全问题进行深入探索，尤其是在揭示三者之间的互动效应方面进行了有益尝试。我们希望本书的出版能进一步深化对东北亚地区的理论探索并有助于推动本地区经贸合作的迅速发展。
